Black Lives Matter

'this is not about you:

this is about black lives being taken.
this is about black lives living.
this is about black lives hurting.
this is about black lives grieving.
this is about black lives,
because black lives matter.'

-Josefina H. Sanders, via @loveoffering on IG

* What More Can I Do?

Read. Learn. Unlearn.
Recognize your privilege.
Stand up for racism when you hear it. Confront it when you see it.
Have conversations, uncomfortable as they might be. Allyship was never meant to be easy. It's messy. That doesn't mean it's not the right thing to do.
Do not center yourself in these conversations.

Support black-owned businesses.
Do better.
Show up.
Repeat, week after week, season after season, year after year.

We are currently adding to our lending library here at the shop all the time, which includes some of the books pictured above, as well as How to Be Anti-Racist and White Fragility; if you're local and would like to borrow one, we can set up a curbside pickup almost any day of the week. We have also established a line of credit at Cottage Books in Glen Arbor for any of our customers who would like to purchase anti-racist reading material‑‑for themselves, friends or family members. Please call Sue or any of the lovely staff at (231) 334-4223 and they will ship directly to your home.

Sending you our love, near and far. Together, we can all do more. We can do better.

Farmstead Hollyhock

We are thrilled to announce the July 2020 installment for the Sleeping Bear Yarn Club: Farmstead Hollyhock. Dyed exclusively for us by Deirdre of Fangirl Yarn in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, this deep, tonal purple is juicy and vibrant and leans red, like the deepest hue of these heritage perennials we love so much. Planted around historical farms all over northern Michigan, these flowers continue to bloom, year after year, bringing beauty to even the most bedraggled farms.

* pre-order by June 20th *

July's delightful little package will include a skein of Fangirl Sock Yarn (75% superwash Merino wool, 25% nylon‑‑463 yds, 100 g), a Violet Riverstone stitch marker and your choice of the Papaver Sock, Rory Cardigan or Canopy Shawl pattern, as well as the free gifts for NEW 12-month members, Thank You gifts for Year Two members and Leelanau Lifetime Members for those in Years Three through Seven.*

Join us this morning, Saturday June 6th from 10 am to 12 noon EST as we sit and drink coffee and knit (or crochet/spin/stitch/weave!) together. It won't be exactly the same as being together in person, but it'll be so very good to see you.
